The La Sierra Eagles (12-5, 8-3) beat the Arlington Lions Tuesday at home in an extra inning game that lasted 9 innings. The Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the first 3 innings, but would respond with 2 of their own in the bottom of the third. Blake Moreno (1-3) started the rally with a single, followed by Ryan Villarreal (2-4) being hit by a pitch. Brian Bos (2-5) and Dennis Martine (2-4) then hit back-to-back singles to score Moreno and Villarreal and tie the game at 2-2. Arlington responded with 2 runs in the 4th, and the Eagles would plate one more in the bottom of the 4th on a double by Daniel Beltran (2-5). Arlington added one more insurance run in the 6th to give them a two run lead heading into the seventh. The Eagles would battle back after Moreno led off the bottom of the 7th with a lead off walk. Beltran would drive Moreno in on his second double of the game, bringing the Eagles to within one. Villarreal followed Beltran with an RBI single to tie the game, and would advance to second on an errant pick-off attempt. The Arlington pitcher would escape the jam by striking out the next 3 Eagles in order. Dennis Martine pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th inning, giving up 2 hits and striking out 4. Brad Schwandt would re-enter the game as a pitcher and throw a scoreless 9th inning to give the Eagles one last shot to win the game. After two quick outs, Ryan Villarreal started the rally with a blast to deep center that resulted in a stand-up triple. Brian Bos then gave the Eagles a win when he smashed a line-drive up the middle, just out of the shortstops reach. Brad Schwandt picked up the win, finishing with 1 1/3 innings pitched, 1 hit, and 1 strikeout. The Eagles will play @ Valley View on Thursday at 3:15.
Notes: Andrew Hardy pitched 5 2/3 strong innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and striking out 5. Brian Bos was given his first game ball after the victory. La Sierra (7-3) is in 2nd place in conference behind Canyon Springs (9-1).
